RMSCC Supply Chain Information Standard

Standard: Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set
Status: 'D' Draft - Awaiting industry consultation and feedback
Issue date: DRAFT issued 19th November 2020
Authority: Australian Meat Industry Language and Standards Committee AMILSC
Purpose:

This purpose of the standard is to define a consistent supply chain approach to reporting bovine slaughter and chiller assessment data from processing slaughter establishment (plants), to those entities authorised to receive the data.

The standard defines the data set to be passed along the supply chain rather than the data transport method. There is a CSV example defined for the purpose of simplicity. The data in a CSV format is considered the simplest and easiest transport method for plants to provide data to the largest number of data consumers.

The use of JSON, XML and other data transport formats is considered to be determined on a use case basis. The decision for the transport format and transport method would be defined on a specific supply chain commercial basis.

The Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set usage includes:

  • Data source for uploading to the MSA system for use with the MSA App based grading.
  • Data source for 3rd party chiller assessment App.
  • Reporting related to disease and defect condition bench marking with the industry disease and defect condition standard.
  • Detailed feedback to owners, vendors or operators.
  • Industry research projects involving analysis of slaughter and chiller assessment related data.
  • The slaughter establishment (plant) creates the data systemically either prior to Chiller Assessment (typical when the MSA or 3rd party App grading function is used) or after the carcases have been Chiller Assessed.
Scope:

The Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set covers the type of data to be collected by plants at the following stages:

  • Pre-slaughter data related to information about the supply of the livestock.
  • Slaughter data collection at the time of knocking through to carcase ticketing.
  • Post slaughter carcase ticketing data collection through to entry into the chiller.
  • Chiller assessment data collection.

The Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Data Set does not include the following:

  • Post chiller assessment data sets.

This specification does not define the MSA grading data outcome field specification. For details on the MSA grading outcome specification refer to the MSA Standards.

Structure of the National Standard

The technical structure of the Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set is defined to report on individual animal records. An individual animal key is comprised of the processing plant identification, kill date, chain number and body number. This combination of keys cannot repeat in a dataset. How individual systems manage the reuse of the individual animal key combination in different data payloads is not defined within this standard. However suitable business process functions need to be implemented to manage these occurrences.

The data elements of the standard have the usage defined as:

  1. Mandatory - The data element must have data provided as specified.
  2. Recommended - The data element is not mandatory, but it is recommended to be provided if it is collected.
  3. Optional - The data element is not mandatory but would be included based on commercial considerations.
  4. Conditional (Mandatory) - The data element must be supplied if the data element is collected or required for a specified purpose. An example is when the data payload is used for the purpose of the MSA grading app.
  5. Conditional (Recommended) - The element is not mandatory, but it is recommended to be provided if it is conditionally collected.
  6. Conditional (Optional) - The data element would be included based on commercial considerations if it is conditionally collected.

The data set type and the version are included in the technical structure of the Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set. A change history is maintained for each data set type.

Case Sensitivity

Many data importing systems are case sensitive for attribute names and data values. Case sensitivity should be taken into consideration for any data exporting, data transport and data importing systems.

Comments and Feedback:

The Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set have a status of 'D' Draft - Awaiting industry consultation and feedback. The standard is in use by industry for the purpose of testing the suitability and robustness of the current draft Plant Bovine Slaughter Export Industry Standard Data Set.
